FAQ -- Frequently Asked Questions
VOLUNTEERING
Q: When can I apply as a volunteer? What positions are available?
A: Volunteer applications are accepted in late fall for a variety of crews: tickets, housekeeping, wristband checkers, set-up, performer sales, instrument check, etc.). See the VOLUNTEER PAGE for information about positions and how to apply.
GENERAL INFORMATION
Q: Is this event mostly/only for people who dance?
A: It's for everyone! Whether you dance (at any level) or just enjoy good music, concerts and performances, there's something for everyone. The Parting Glass Pub has concerts all Saturday and Sunday, at no charge. You may also wander through the Hotel Pavilion and listen to jam sessions and performances held there. Come browse! There are many beginner-oriented events
Q: Is there something for families and children?
A: There are several events for families and young children (from storytelling to dance to juggling!), often in the City Center's Room C, or a workshop room. (See SCHEDULE) Events are coded as to the type of audience/participants and the skill level. Anything that has a code with "[F]" is geared toward families and young children. A code with "[T]" is aimed at teens.
Q: Do I need special dance shoes?
A: We *require* soft-soled, clean indoor shoes (never worn outdoors) on all wood dance floors. The National Museum of Dance has special floors and you may need to wear only socks on some of those surfaces. Many people bring a second pair of comfortable, soft-soled shoes just for dancing. The main thing is that they have not been used outdoors where dirt and grit can get on them.
Q: Do you have to pre-register for events or workshops?
A: No. Pre-registration is not required for any event at the Dance Flurry.
Q: Is there Food on site?
A: There is a buffet available for light breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the Hotel Gallery. Snacks are available in the City Center lobby. Some off-site venues may have snacks available. An upscale restaurant, Chez Sophie, is located in the Saratoga Hotel. Reservations are recommended. There are many good local restaurants, cafes, and eateries in Saratoga within walking distance of the Hotel and City Center. See: Saratoga Chamber of Commerce, and Discover Saratoga websites for more information on dining.
Q: How much is daily parking?
A: Much of the parking is free (on street & some lots), just be sure that you aren't parked in a 2-hour zone or in a private lot. There is a large public lot behind the City Center. You won't need your car to get to other venues. Shuttle buses will run from the City Center throughout the festival weekend to take you to outlying events. If there is a major snow storm, please obey all "snow emergency" street signs. Check our parking map for more information.
Q: Are there crafts or dance/music merchandise for sale?
A: There are several vendors selling things like: clothes, jewelry, dance shoes, crafts, soaps and other items. We also have a Festival Sales table where you can purchase performer's cd's, tapes, music books -- as well as festival-related items such as t-shirts, hats, mugs, bags, etc.
TICKETS
NOTE: Cash or check, only. We cannot process credit cards at this time.
Q: How do I obtain advance tickets?
A: Check our Tickets page in late December to obtain the order form and instructions. The following information will help cut down on ticket delays – please read it. Advance ticket sales orders MUST be postmarked by Monday, January 28, 2008. You must be a current member of the DanceFlurry Organization (HMTD, Inc.) to obtain member-discounted advance tickets. Ordering tickets at the member price with a lapsed membership will delay the ticket process.
Q: Can I order advance tickets for someone else?
A: Yes, but you can only pick up tickets under your name. If you are ordering together, but arriving separately, notify us of the names of ALL in your party, and we will gladly hold tickets under individual names.
Q: Why can't discounted Student/Child or Senior tickets be purchased in advance?
A: We check identification for these discounted tickets at the time of pick up.
Seniors: The Senior discount applies to ages 65 and older (birth date before 3/1/43). You can apply for the discount and receive tickets by mail, you must photocopy age-verification photo identification and enclose a copy with your ticket order form. We return the copy. Do not send the original ID.
Students/Children: Tickets for students are held at the City Center Box Office, pending visual verification of Student ID's. If you are a high school student with no ID (or are home schooled), you need to have some form of ID for verification.
Q: What is the turn-around time for processing Flurry tickets?
A: Sending your tickets to you will depend on the
number of orders received each week, and may range from next day mailing
to two weeks. All ticket orders postmarked by Monday, January
28th, 2008, will be processed and mailed out by February 8th. If you are concerned
about receiving your ticket on time, we will gladly hold it for you to pick up
at the City Center Box Office.
ALSO NOTE: if you are concerned that a ticket MAILED on February 8th will not reach you in time, request that we hold your ticket. Your cancelled check is your receipt. We cannot in the constraints of time, confirm receipt of your order.
Q: What is the Flurry Refund Policy?
A: Full refunds -- must be requested by Monday, January 28th, 2008 (postmark or email date). The easiest and quickest way to comply with that deadline is to request a refund via e-mail at advancetickets@danceflurry.org. A check for your refunds will be processed after the unused tickets are returned and AFTER the flurry. The POSTMARK is important to receive a full refund.
Refunds requested between Tuesday January 29 and Monday February 4 -- will be given at 75%. Refunds will be via check and will be mailed AFTER the Flurry. Unused tickets must be returned. The POSTMARK is important to receive ANY refund.
There will be no refunds after February 4, 2008.
You may also request a refund in writing, as long as it is postmarked by
January 28th, 2008.
NOTE: If your order has been processed and the tickets are
already "in the mail," you will only receive your refund when you return your
tickets. If we have not processed your order at the time of your request, we will be happy to return
your check to you.
Q: Can tickets bought for one day be exchanged for another?
A: You may make an even exchange at the door, provided you make the exchange *before* the time period of the tickets you hold.
Q: How should one pay for tickets if living in Canada?
A: All tickets must be paid for in U.S. funds. In the past,
Canadian participants have sent Money Orders or Bank Checks from a U.S. fund account. We will hold your tickets at the advance ticket window (Box Office) so you do not need to worry about sending an SASE with American stamps.
Q: Does my young child need a ticket?
A: All children, six and over require a ticket (wristband). All young children MUST wear their wristbands at all times, and MUST be supervised. (We also suggest that you create a nametag for your young child, with the child's name and parent's name written on it, in the unlikely event that you become separated.)
Q: Do you run out of at-door tickets?
A: No. Half-day, full-day or full weekend tickets may be purchased during the festival at the Ticket Sales booth in the Saratoga City Center, and at other Flurry venues.
Q: I just want to come and observe. Are there different costs for observer vs. participant?
A: All dance & workshop rooms or venues require a ticket to enter and observe. HOWEVER: There are four Festival areas open to the public free of charge. These are: The Saratoga Hotel Lobby, Pavilion and Gallery, and the Parting Glass Pub.
