Any student residing in a member community of the Regional School District (Adams, Clarksburg, Florida, Monroe, North Adams, Williamstown, and Savoy) who has reached the age of fourteen and/ or who has satisfied requirements for promotion to grade nine may apply for high school level admission to the Charles H. McCann Technical School.
The C.H. McCann Technical School insures equal employment / educational opportunities and affirmative action regardless of race, color, creed, national origin, sex, or handicap.
The C.H. McCann Technical School is governed by the NBVRSD and offers vocational and technical programs in compliance with Chapter 74 regulations which govern vocational education in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
The school district serves the residents of the seven member towns mentioned in the eligibility statement above. There are no town quotas governing admission of students into these programs. All students are given equal consideration for admission according to application and selection processes described in this policy.
Students residing in towns which are not members of the NBVRSD are accepted to the school as tuition students on a space-available basis. Such students are eligible for admission after all qualified resident students have been accepted. They are then eligible only if the vocational program of their choice is not available through the public education facilities in their town of residence or school district. The applicant's tuition is the responsibility of the sending town if the applicant is under the age of 20 at the time of application and acceptance.
Students interested in attending McCann Technical School may obtain information concerning vocational / technical programs in the following manner.
- Tours of the School. Each year in the month of December McCann Technical School provides admissions programs and conducts tours at the school for all grade eight students in the seven-town district. The purpose of these programs is to provide an overview of the programs at McCann Tech. The are designed to inform prospective students about application procedures and the admissions process, and to provide career and decision-making information. Information regarding the time and place of the tours is published annually i nthe local newspapers and is available through the administrative offices of all feeder schools. Participation in these tours is not a prerequisite for admisison to the school.
- After-school Exploratory Program. In January of each year interested eighth grade students are brought from their schools to McCann for two-hour rotations in each of the nine vocational areas.
- Parent and Student Information Program. In February of each year the staff of McCann Technical School provides an informational program at the school for parents, prospective students, and interested members of the community. The NBVRSD is committed to effecting a balance of male and female students in all vocational programs, and actively informs students about the expanding opportunities for men and women in the world of work.
