Broadband Services

Broadband.

Broadband availability has been severely limited by the FCC, however BerkshireNet continues to seek out those methods of Broadband delivery left to us. Check back to see our status on broadband deployment, and contact us if you feel your area is a good location for us to deploy in.

Wireless

Wireless Broadband is restricted to Line of Sight (LoS), and because of that coverage can be spotty. Everything from trees to buildings to mountains can interfere with the wireless signal, so where you are in relation to where we are is very important. However with speeds available of up to 3Mbps, wireless internet may be just what you need.

Several new technologies are currently in development which will improve the line of sight issues, so stay tuned!

While wireless is still in trial here in Pittsfield, our test runs have been extremely successful. Currently, only business grade is offered and in a limited area.

Wireless is available in the following areas only

  • Pittsfield - Lower North Street area

DSL

Recently, the FCC changed the rules for deploying DSL services. BerkshireNet is revamping our DSL deployment plans to meet the newest FCC rules. Stay tuned!

Cable

Currently, small independent ISPs are unable to provide cable broadband services throughout most of the United States. Despite the fact that most cable companies operate on a local monopoly, and despite the fact that the Federal Trade Commission has ordered AOL/Time-Warner to open their network to competing ISPs, this has not happened. Therefore, BerkshireNet cannot provide cable services until and unless the FCC forces the Cable companies to open their networks to small ISPs like BerkshireNet.
